Shambellie House

As you all know I have been home for a few days visiting my family and would you believe it was actually sunny on Thursday! So in honour of the sun making an appearance my mum and I went out for the day.

We went to Shambellie House, the National Museum of Costume. It was built in 1856 for the local Stewart family and is a lovely building set in gorgeous grounds. Each room of the museum displays beautiful, furniture, gowns and clothing from different periods all in immaculate condition.

As a young girl I attended many craft workshops at Shambellie House so it was lovely to go back and look around.  I have visited a number of exhibitions at the museum in the past but I think the current exhibition is definitely one of my favourites.  The exhibition displays the fabulous 'Of the Peg Style, 40s and 50s Horockses Fashions.'

I love the silhouette of these dresses and they are so well made from top quality cotton, here are some of my favourites;

The patterns on the fabric are so detailed and pretty,

and these playsuits are so cute! However this red dress is my all time favourite.

I had a lovely day with my mum walking around the museum and looking at the exhibition, the museum also has a small cafe which has lovely cakes, oh and you get to try on a corset which is definitely an experience!

Overall I had a fabulous day and highly recommend  all of you visiting the museum at some point.

 The museum is having a 'Fabulous 50s Day' on the 22 July 11:00 - 16:00, "See fabulous fifties fashion, dress up in vintage clothing and enjoy a rock n' roll soundtrack". Sadly I cannot go as I will be in  Aberdeen but I am sure it will be an amazing day and if you are free to go I suggest you do go along.
